READING KEY WEST: PANDEMIC EDITION
with NANCY KLINGENER AND MARK HEDDEN
Students will meet online
Apr 17, Apr 24, May 1, May 8 & May 15, 4-5:30pm
Limit 12 readers
Mark Hedden and Nancy Klingener are bringing back their moderated book club that focuses on great writing about our island. You will read the books, can comment in a private Facebook group and we’ll have weekly Meet Ups via Zoom on Friday afternoons. This go-round offers glimpses of the island at previous times of economic downturns — the 1930s and 1970s —times that also attracted a lot of writers drawn in by cheap rent and cheap rum.
Nancy and Mark bring their dry humor, love of books, and deep knowledge of Key West to this popular series devoted to discovering Key West literature. Nancy is a former Miami Herald reporter and regular contributor to WLRN, while Mark brings a bit of rock and roll to his writing about birds and other things.
THE BOOK GROUP WILL READ:
TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT by Ernest Hemingway
SELECTIONS FROM Elizabeth Bishop
92 IN THE SHADE BY Thomas McGuane
KEY WEST TALES BY John Hersey
THE JEWS OF KEY WEST by Arlo Haskell
