The Island Roots Heritage Festival, which celebrates sister cities Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas and Key West, will be held Friday through Sunday, May 19-21, at various venues.
On Friday, Barefoot Man will perform at 8 p.m. at Two Friends Patio Restaurant, 512 Front St.
On Saturday, the festival kicks off at noon at the western end of Petronia Street and features crafts, food and drinks, and carnival rides. At 2 p.m., the Caribbean Queen Junkanoo parade will travel west along Petronia from the fire station at Angela Street to the festival area and will culminate in the reaffirmation of the Sister City proclamation at 3.
The festivities continue with musical performances by Nick Norman at 5 p.m. and Barefoot Man at 7.
On Sunday, a service and prayer session, “Worship on the Water,” will be held at noon at the Edward B. Knight Pier, formerly the White Street Pier.
The festival celebrates the cultural and genealogical ties between Key West and Green Turtle Cay, as well as the 40th anniversary of the two becoming sister cities.
