CONCH REPUBLIC … RE-VISITED!
April 20-23 2017 at 7pm
FRINGE THEATER’S MUSICAL HIT RETURNS!
Looking for the perfect way to kick-off the annual Conch Republic Independence Celebration? Then start with this year’s production of Conch Republic (Re-Visited) from the Fringe Theater. The show plays only four nights, April 20-23, at The Studios of Key West, located at 533 Eaton.
Don’t know the story of how the Conch Republic was born? Even more reason to see this fast-paced re-telling of how Virginia, Ed, and Dennis (with the help of their friends) saved Key West with one of the grandest PR students in history!
It’s an unbelievable yet (mostly) true story of the very real (economic) threat that arose when the federal government began treating the Florida Keys as though it was a foreign nation in 1982. Key West responded in-kind and seceded from the United States!
“Our show tells that story, with accuracy and hilarity,” promises the play’s writer Monnie King who worked closely with the play’s musical composer, Gayla Morgan. “We re-visited the script this year,” Morgan explains, “Now the show can be performed with 4 actors instead of 8. It makes for a much more intimate evening of storytelling.” King clarifies, “Without losing any of the fun.”
Conch Republic (Re-Visited) is directed by JB McLendon with Bernadette Restivo, Arthur Crocker, Mathias Maloff, and Rhett Kalman tackling the 21 roles required to tell the story. “We’ve got a lawyer, pirate, bartender, and pie huckster telling this year’s Conch Republic tale,” McLendon jokes. “It’s the perfect storm.”
Treat yourself to an evening of song, dance, and plenty of flags (which is in truth HOW the Conch Republic was born). Tickets are $35 at www.fringetheater.org or 305-731-0581. Conch Republic (Re-Visited) runs April 20-23 at The Studios of Key West. Show time is 7pm.
